The assessment and management of risk is a routine aspect of day to day practice by clinicians, practitioners and managers in health and social care. Concern about risk taking in respect of vulnerable people has been a key factor shaping public perceptions of social workers and health professionals. Who is seen to be at risk and where the perceived threat lies varies depending on who is making the assessment and who is seen as vulnerable.
